群馬縣位於日本列島的中心位置，主要城市有二，一是行政中心前橋市，另一是˙交通樞紐高崎市，共有上越新幹線、長野新幹線、高崎線、信越本線、八高線、兩毛線等線在此交會。若欲從東京前往群馬，可搭新幹線往西北方向，通過琦玉縣即進入群馬，車行時間僅約一小時。

近代許多日本首相皆來自群馬，包括福田赳夫、福田康夫父子、中曾根康弘、小淵惠三，就連知名的AV女優麻美由真也是來自群馬的高崎市。

日本第一：草津溫泉 

群馬縣有三分之二都是山地，從西部、北部、到東北部，都是山岳丘陵連綿起伏，這是最常蘊含溫泉的環境。因此日本人 一提到群馬，首先想到便是溫泉。

群馬最有名的溫泉地帶是位於西北山區的草津，長期盤據観光経済新聞評選的《にっぽんの温泉100選》榜首，名列前茅的還有：伊香保(2017年第15名)、万座(第25名)、水上(みなかみ，第15名) 等。
